Hand Dyed Product Terms & Conditions

All of my hand dyed outfits, wraps, and layer sets are created with care and artistry in collaboration with my local yarn dyer. Please note the following important details regarding hand dyed products and dye lot variations:

 

Dye Lot & Batch Variations

Each batch of yarn is dyed by hand, and as such, variations between dye lots are natural and expected.

A batch refers to a group of yarns dyed together in the same pot at the same time, using the same colour recipe and technique. Even within a single batch, very slight differences may occur, but yarns from the same batch are generally the most consistent in tone and depth of color. Once that batch is finished, any future dyeing of the same colour becomes a new batch and therefore a new dye lot.

A dye lot refers to the specific colour outcome from that batch. Every fiber—whether merino, alpaca, or another blend—absorbs dye differently. Even when following the same recipe, small differences in temperature, water, or dye concentration can create unique variations from one batch to another.

While we use precise measurements and detailed formulas to achieve consistent colourways, exact replication is not always possible. Factors such as fiber content, dye absorption, and minute measurement differences can influence the final shade.

 

The Art of Hand Dyeing

Our yarns are dyed in small batches using finely measured dye powders and carefully blended colour recipes. Each hue is made by combining multiple pigments—often down to the milligram—to achieve the desired tone. Even with careful precision, a slight variation in pigment ratios, fiber type, or absorption rate can create differences in the final colour.

My yarn lady takes great pride in the craftsmanship and care that go into each skein of yarn and myself every finished product. Hand dyeing is a true art form, and these subtle variations are part of what make each piece unique and special.

By purchasing a hand dyed item, you acknowledge and accept that slight colour variations are part of the natural and beautiful process of creating hand dyed products.

Colour Matching Requests

If you request or purchase a match to products from Newborn Nerds, Savage Seamless, or another reference you’ve provided, we will do our best to achieve the closest match possible. However, please understand that perfect colour matching cannot be guaranteed. Hand dyeing is both a science and an art, and part of its charm lies in the subtle uniqueness of each batch.

Ordering Recommendations

To ensure the best possible colour consistency across your items, we highly recommend purchasing all the pieces you wish to coordinate at the same time. This allows us to use the same batch and dye lot for your entire order whenever possible. Orders placed separately may result in slight colour differences between items due to varying dye lots.
